The Serengeti cat is a cross between the Bengal cat & an Oriental or (in the short term) a Siamese cat. The breed is still in the development stages, but the ultimate aim is to produce a cat that looks similar to a Serval, without using any wild cat blood, so that it will be possible for you to have a wild-looking cat in your home. Serengeti cats are spotted cats, with long legs & very large ears. Currently recognised by TICA in the brown spotted variety only, a group in the UK are working towards getting the snow spotted, blue-eyed variety recognised. Well, perhaps these are just on loan for a while but please meet Bageera & Tikka's children.... This is the Boogie Woogie Boogle Boy
Bengal kittens all go through a stage known as the 'fuzzies' where their adult pattern of spots is blurred for a short time. It looks like Serengeti kittens also go through the same stage, so possibly the true beauty of their wonderful coats will not be evident until they reach about 18 months of age. Boogle's spots are a little clearer in the following photo - some of them are two-tone - not something that will be selected for in a Serengeti breeding programme.
Bonzo is more Bengal shaped than Oriental/Siamese shaped.
He's very handsome & extremely affectionate ... and has been purring for me since he was two and a half weeks old.
The Berry Pretty Girl, is small & dark with ears placed quite high on her head.
She's very sweet natured, mischievous & cuddly. She also likes to eat biscuits.
Finally, this big eared little chap is Breezy Bobbin, he's living in Plymouth with his new close comrade, Charlotte. You can visit him at Littlefancy Serengetis & Bengals by clicking this link ... www.lesleydart.supanet.com/
Breezy was the most oriental-shaped of the four kittens - he was also the most orange. It's possible that he might have a glittered coat - that, or he had fur tipped in bright orange.
All four of these kittens have been a pleasure to have around ... okay, I'll admit that I'm not happy that they learned how to raid the fridge, open cupboard doors & climb the curtains - but they've made up for that by being such warm & affectionate little creatures. They love being cuddled, want to spend time with you, want to play games with you & love to purr for you.
